Bassoon

Jim Jackson, Principal
Jim Jackson, Principal Jim Jackson is the Deputy Director of Peach State STARBASE, a Department of Defense Science, Technology, Engineering and Math academy for at-risk students at Dobbins Air Reserve Base. His music background includes nine years with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on Bassoon and Contra Bassoon, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education from Georgia State University, and 30 years as a Music Educator in the Atlanta area. He retired in from the Georgia Air National Guard in May of 2007 after 38 years in the Air National Guard Band of the South. Through that group he has performed in Norway, the Azores, Germany, Romania, England, the Dominican Republic, and throughout the USA. He lives in Acworth with his wife, Gail, and their dog, Zoltan (after Kodaly). They have three grown sons, Mark, Alan, and Benjamin.

John Lenahan
John Lenahan John Lenahan has played bassoon with the orchestra since 1998. He earned a BFA in music from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In addition to playing with the Georgia Philharmonic, John plays with the Atlanta Wind Symphony and the Dolce Chamber Orchestra. When not making music, John works as an instructional technology designer in the financial services industry.





Krystal Saenz
Krystal Saenz Krystal holds a BM in Music Education from Georgia State University. She is currently the orchestra director at Daniell Middle School in Cobb County. She performs with the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra on bassoon and viola. She has been teaching various woodwinds and strings for six years. She has taught clinics and private lessons at the elementary, middle and high school levels in both concert band and orchestra as well as marching band. With a specialization in double reeds, Krystal has started students as young as 8 years old on the oboe and the bassoon and teaches reed making for both instruments as well. Having grown up in Roswell, GA, she is an alumni of the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony, Georgia Allstate Orchestra, and four years of the Fulton County Honor Orchestra and Honor Band. She has also performed internationally in Asia and at the GMEA clinic in Savannah, Georgia and Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois.
